Job summary

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Johannesburg invites applications for an Internship in Geosciences. Two positions available for an eighteen-month contract, reporting to the Programme Manager at the Mandela Mining Precinct.

Responsibilities include literature reviews, underground trial support, stakeholder engagement, and data reporting. Applicants should hold a BSc(Hons) in Geology/Geophysics, with MS Office skills and a clean criminal record.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science honours in Geology/Geophysics is required.
• Mineral Resource Management qualification is an advantage.
• Experience in mining environment is an asset.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Good numerical and detail oriented skills.
• Must hold a valid driver’s licence and have a clean criminal record.
• SAQA evaluation is required for international qualifications.

• Literature review of geosciences research locally and internationally.
• Assist with underground trials at mine sites.
• Engage with researchers and stakeholders in the programme.
• Conduct research tasks related to technologies as assigned.
• Report on processes and results.
• Present findings where required.
• Perform general administrative tasks for project leads.

Internship: Geosciences (Two Positions)

Eighteen Months Contract

About The Job

The CSIR has an internship opportunities in the Mandela Mining Precinct. The Mandela Mining Precinct aims to appoint an intern in the Geosciences area for the next 18 months. Key Responsibilities

• Literature review of previous research done locally and internationally within the field of geosciences and its applications aligned to the programme.
• Assist and support with underground trials at various mine sites.
• Engage with researchers and stakeholders involved within the programme projects.
• Conduct research work/tasks related to technologies, as assigned by project leads/programme manager.
• Report on processes and results.
• Attend and present on results where required.
• Perform general administrative tasks as required by project leaders.

Qualifications, Skills And Experience

• A Bachelor of Science honours degree in Geology/Geophysics;
• Mineral Resource Management qualification will be an advantage;
• Experience within the mining environment will be an added advantage;
• Proficient in Microsoft suite of programmes;
• Good numerical skills;
• Good attention to detail.
• A valid drivers Licence
• Must have clear/no criminal record;
• All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
