Job summary

NTT DATA, Inc. in Cape Town seeks a DevOps Engineer to bridge development and IT operations. You will design CI/CD pipelines, manage AWS cloud infrastructure, and drive automation across the release lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Linux-based OS and cloud infrastructure (AWS).
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD.
• Proven IaC experience with at least one framework (SaltStack, Chef, Ansible, Puppet, Terraform).
• Strong scripting skills in Bash and at least one language (Python/Java/Go).
• Knowledge of web servers (Apache/Nginx) and load balancers.
• Familiarity with AWS RDS, Redis, MongoDB, and networking concepts.

Summary of role

A DevOps Engineer is responsible for bridging the gap between software development and IT operations by automating, streamlining, and improving the software delivery lifecycle. They design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, manage and optimize AWS cloud infrastructure, monitor system performance, and ensure application reliability, scalability, security, and availability. The role involves leveraging cloud-native AWS services, infrastructure-as-code practices, containerization, and Kubernetes orchestration to support modern application deployments. DevOps Engineers collaborate closely with development, testing, and operations teams to enable faster releases, reduce downtime, improve system resilience, and drive operational excellence through automation, continuous integration, and continuous delivery best practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain procedures to comply with security policies and IT best practices
• Develop and maintain documentation of systems configurations and procedures
• Monitor systems via applications, log files, Elk/OpenSearch and sanity checks
• Actively work on building and migrating PayFast to Kubernetes.

• Serve as an escalation point to resolve problems in Servers and users' environment

Requirements

• Matric Certification and a Bachelors (RHCE / ISO 27001/PCI) is a plus but not required
• High level of proficiency in Linux based OS
• Cloud Infrastructure (AWS) Associated Certified is a must have
• Containers (Docker + Kubernetes)
• Pipelines (Jenkins/Gitlab Ci)
• Proficiency in a scripting language and application language: Bash, Python, PHP, Perl, Java , Go
• Proven IaC experience in one of: SaltStack, Chef, Ansible, Puppet, Teraform
• Web Servers (Apache, Nginx, fpm, node)
• Load Balancers Experience
• Knowledge of Database technologies: AWS RDS (especially Maria and MySQL)
• NoSql DBs,pub/sub and Key/Value stores: Redis/mongo
• Replication technologies
• Experience in Networking: OSI, (AWS TGW and basic on prem OSI model)
