Job summary

Valterra Platinum is seeking an Instrumentation Technician (Band 7) based in Mokopane, Limpopo. You will implement safety-centric control solutions, troubleshoot PCS7/WinCC systems, and support instrumentation across processes while adhering to company standards and procedures.

The role requires a diploma or equivalent in process instrumentation, English proficiency, and a valid SA driving license, with a focus on safe, efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 with Maths & Science required.
• National Diploma N6 or Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Process Instrumentation) required.
• Registration as a Professional Engineering Technician with ECSA is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Create a safety culture with risk-controlled systems and processes.
• Enforce Safety & Health principles in all interactions and ensure zero harm.
• Identify high-risk and safety-critical areas.
• Identify areas of poor availability and support instrumentation.
• Audit high-risk areas and diagnose control-system issues.
• Troubleshoot systems and assist with instrumentation hardware and software.

Job Description

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Create a safety culture through productive and authorized operational systems/processes that allow all employees (including contracting partners) to provide their outputs in a risk-controlled environment.
• Oversee consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
• Identify high risk and safety critical areas
• Identify areas of poor availability
• Disseminate best practice in instrumentation aspects
• Audit high risk and safety critical areas
• Analyse and identify problems on the current control solution
• System trouble shooting and hardware problems resolution
• Support on existing instrumentation, networks, hardware and software
• Calibration and maintenance of all equipment within the control solution
• Adherence to the Valterra Platinum Change Procedure
• Adherence to Valterra Platinum Standards
• Assist with commissioning for onsite projects
• Implement a purpose-driven, high-performing culture that is aligned with the company values, is inclusive and promotes diversity, supports engagement and fosters continuous improvement to work processes.
• Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory, legislative and permitting requirements.

This role is at a Band 7 level reporting to the Senior Instrumentation Technician.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 with Maths & Science
• National Diploma N6 + Trade Test or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Process Instrumentation) (T3/S4)
• Registered as a professional Engineering Technician with ECSA (Advantageous)

Experience, Knowledge And Skills

• 3 years relevant work experience
• Sound knowledge and experience on programming of PCS7 and WinCC
• Experience on Profibus, Profinet and Ethernet networks
• Experience with Allen Bradley and Citect Scada will be advantageous
• Advanced computer literacy
• English literate
• Good decision-making skills
• Valid driving license code B

Additional Information

• Shortlisted candidates will be expected to do a comprehensive work sample test
• Work in accordance with work schedule of area and could possibly involve working shifts
• Must be a South African Citizen
• No Criminal Record
• Must pass the relevant psychometric assessment
• Must have good written and verbal communication skills in English
• A valid South African Driver’s license will be advantageous
