Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Control Engineer for our Upington facility. You will design, implement, and maintain instrumentation and control systems to ensure safe and efficient operation of energy infrastructure.

You will collaborate with process engineers and operations teams, develop PLC and DCS logic, calibrate instruments, and ensure compliance with IEC 61508/61511 where applicable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years in instrumentation and control engineering.
• Proven PLC and DCS programming experience.
• Ability to read P&IDs, electrical schematics and control diagrams.
• Knowledge of IEC 61508/61511 is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, specify, and implement process instrumentation, control loops, and automation systems for energy-related processes.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new control systems and upgrade existing ones.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards for instrumentation, safety (e.g., SIL), and control systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering, preferably within the energy or process industries.
• Proven experience with PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and DCS (Distributed Control System) programming and configuration.
• Proficiency in reading P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control system diagrams.
• Knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508/61511) is highly desirable.
