Job summary

Nestlé Harrismith Factory is seeking an Instrumentation Technician to maintain and install instrumentation equipment, ensuring safe, efficient operation of machinery and adherence to SANS 10142-1 standards. The role includes fault finding, calibration and compliance with AMM, SHE, CDM guidelines.

The ideal candidate holds Matric/N6 with a Trade Test in Electrical & instrumentation, at least two years’ instrumentation experience, and strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SAP, AMM).

Qualifications

• Matric and N6 Certificate or equivalent.
• Trade Test Certificate (Electrical & instrumentation) required.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in instrumentation field.
• Computer literacy including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SAP and AMM.
• In-depth knowledge of PLCs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct planned maintenance on plant instrumentation and systems.
• Prevent breakdowns through proactive patrols and improvements.
• Install, service, repair and maintain instrumentation equipment.
• Calibrate CCP equipment and instrumentation (Metal detectors/X-ray, etc.).
• Fault-find and repair instrumentation faults quickly to keep production running.
• Assist with small projects and change controls.
• Update and correct drawings as required.
• Interact with production, suppliers and contractors.

Position Summary

The Technician should maintain and install instrumentation equipment in first class working conditions, ensure efficient safe operation of machinery by setting and adjusting devices to or within allowed tolerances. All work conducted on premises must conform to SANS code 10142-1:2003 and internal standards if more stringent in all areas of engineering, quality, and safety health & environment. Fault finding and attending to breakdowns. Complete the necessary administrative tasks for AMM, SHE, CDM.

A day in the life of an Instrument Technician

• Conduct the planned maintenance required on plant.
• Incumbent must be proactive and prevent breakdowns on his/her patrols and shows initiative to continuously improve equipment performance.
• Install, service, repair and maintain existing and new equipment.
• Follow up and recommend actions to overcome and improve problems encountered.
• Attend to instrumentation l faults and breakdowns in the factory.
• Calibration of all CCP equipment and instrumentation (Metal detectors/Xray/etc.)
• Repair and maintain all aspects of date coding equipment.
• Improve low-cost automation.
• Project Management of small projects

• Fault-finding and programming on instrumentation equipment, PLC’s and VSD, s
• Analyzing and investigating re-current faults. Repairs must be carried out quickly (first time right) and efficiently.
• Maintain high standard of work.
• Ensure machine availability for production targets to be met.
• Undertakes to work shift, standby and overtime as per company requirements.
• Lockout and permit procedure is to be always used when any person could be exposed to danger by the inadvertent starting of machinery.
• Ensure any dangerous conditions must be made safe immediately.
• Ensure that all work is performed and plant performs to always protect product safety.
• To correct errors on drawings and update drawings.
• Complete the necessary administrative tasks for AMM, SHE, CDM and MDWT.
• Actively involved in CDM and MDWT activities
• Interact with production people.
• Interact with suppliers.
• Interact with contractors.
