Sulzer is seeking an Inspector/Estimator for its Service Centre to own the end-to-end inspection process, from stripping to customer-approved estimates. You will determine repair methods, document findings, and ensure quality and compliance with industry standards.

The role drives First-Time Fix Rate and customer satisfaction, requiring accurate diagnostics and close collaboration with workshop teams to align repair scope and costs.

Formación

• Minimum 8 years in pump repair or rotating equipment service.
• Qualified tradesman (turner or fitter) with Grade 12 and N6 or equivalent.
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

Responsabilidades

• Inspect pump components after disassembly and identify damage, wear, or defects.
• Estimate repair requirements and determine suitable methods and materials.
• Define the scope of work and ensure all repairs are identified and documented.
• Ensure repairs meet industry standards and quality; assess risks to performance.
• Document inspection and estimation findings and prepare reports for Engineering.
• Collaborate with workshop personnel to align repair requirements and scope.
• Load costing on SAP and participate in project budgeting.

About the role

Job Summary

The Inspector/Estimator is the technical authority on pump diagnosis, repair scope, and customer issue-pack quality in the Service Centre. The role owns the inspection process end to end — from strip-and-defect capture through to customer-issued estimate — and is the connection point between the workshop’s technical reality and the customer’s commercial expectation.

Every quote that leaves PSC carries an Inspector/Estimator’s diagnostic judgement: which components to replace, which to rework, which repair method to apply, which NDT to call, which standards to apply, what to expand to Engineering, and how to compile a Quality Control Plan that matches what the customer expects to witness. The role’s diagnostic accuracy directly drives First-Time Fix Rate, Cost of Poor Quality, and customer trust.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

• Inspect pump components after disassembly, identifying any damage, wear, or defects.
• Estimate the repair requirements of pumps and/or pump components, determining the most suitable repair methods and materials to industry standards and quality, as well as based on application specific requirements and customer expectations.
• Determine the precise scope of work on official scope of work documentation of work required to repair or replace damaged or worn-out components, ensuring that all necessary repairs are identified and included.
• Ensure that all repairs are carried out to industry standards and quality, identifying any potential issues or risks that may impact pump perf4romance or reliability.
• Apply technical knowledge and expertise to determine the most suitable repair methods such as pump design, materials, and operating conditions.
• Document inspection and estimation findings
• Provide sufficient detail for Engineering when detailed reports and recommendations are required.
• Collaborate with other teams, including workshop personnel, to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and aligned with repair requirements and scope of work.
• Draft QCP and proceed to approval stage.
• Project repair budget costing and method setting.
• Load costing on SAP

Qualifications/Experience and Knowledge Required

• Grade 12
• Qualified tradesmen (turner or fitter)
• Minimum N6 or equivalent experience
• Minimum 8 years in pump repair, rotating equipment service, or equivalent heavy-engineering inspection.
• Valid drivers license Code 8
• Computer literacy
• Steel repair methods and properties.
• SAP systems is advantageous
• Administration
• Read, analyze, and understand engineering drawings and specifications.
• Use specific engineering measuring equipment such micrometers and Vernier’s.
• Report writing skills
• Attention to detail and conservative judgement on critical interfaces.
• Work within the framework of a team
• Must be quality and customer service orientated
• Have a high level of initiative and drive.
• Composure under pressure; willingness to **escalate** complex cases rather than push them through.
• Diagnostic problem-solving — bias toward evidence, not assumption.
