Job summary

OryxAlign is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to maintain and enhance critical IT services across client environments in Bellville, Cape Town. The role emphasizes Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization, and cloud workloads with opportunity to automate using PowerShell.

You will join a collaborative team and work on 2nd/3rd line support, migrations, and DR planning while contributing to robust security, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience as Infrastructure Engineer or similar role.
• Strong Windows Server and Active Directory administration and troubleshooting.
• Experience with VMware or Hyper-V production environments.
• Knowledge of enterprise storage, backup and recovery concepts.
• Experience with migrations, server refreshes, platform upgrades or cloud projects.
• Ability to troubleshoot across compute, OS, virtualization, storage and network layers.
• Experience with PowerShell for administration or automation.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including documenting changes and risks.
• Ability to work with regional teams and remote stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide 2nd and 3rd-line escalation support for incidents, problems and service requests.

• Support VMware and/or Hyper-V environments, including host, cluster and VM lifecycle.
• Maintain on-premises and cloud-hosted server workloads with monitoring, patching, backups and security controls.
• Support backup, recovery and disaster recovery services.
• Participate in migrations, platform upgrades, data-centre changes, cloud adoption and infrastructure transformation projects.
• Use PowerShell and other tools to automate repeatable tasks and improve consistency.
• Produce technical documentation, implementation plans, support procedures and runbooks.
• Work with regional teams, service providers and vendors to diagnose issues and deliver outcomes.

What you will be doing

• Provide 2nd and 3rd-line escalation support for incidents, problems and service requests.
• Administer, maintain and troubleshoot Windows Server, Active Directory and Entra.
• Support VMware and/or Hyper-V environments, including host, cluster and virtual machine lifecycle.
• Maintain on-premises and cloud-hosted server workloads, with appropriate monitoring, patching, backup and security controls.
• Support backup, recovery and disaster recovery services.
• Participate in migrations, platform upgrades, data-centre changes, cloud adoption and infrastructure transformation projects.
• Use PowerShell and other appropriate tools to automate repeatable tasks and improve consistency.
• Produce technical documentation, implementation plans, support procedures and runbooks.
• Work with regional teams, service providers and vendors to diagnose issues and deliver agreed technical outcomes.
• Participate in planned out-of-hours maintenance and the infrastructure on-call rotation as required.

Core platforms and technologies

• Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP.
• VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
• Enterprise server hardware and clustered infrastructure.

• Backup, recovery and disaster recovery platforms.
• Microsoft Azure infrastructure services, networking and hybrid connectivity.
• Infrastructure monitoring, alerting, patching and configuration management.
• PowerShell scripting and infrastructure automation.
• Linux administration at a practical support level.

What you will bring

• 3+ years hands-on experience in an Infrastructure Engineer, Systems Engineer or equivalent role.
• Strong Windows Server and Active Directory administration and troubleshooting capability.
• Hands-on experience supporting VMware or Hyper-V production environments.
• Practical knowledge of enterprise storage, backup and recovery concepts.
• Experience supporting migrations, server refreshes, platform upgrades or cloud infrastructure projects.
• Ability to troubleshoot methodically across compute, OS, virtualisation, storage and network layers.
• Experience with PowerShell for administration or automation.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to document changes and explain technical risks.
• Ability to work collaboratively across South African, UK and European teams and operate effectively with remote stakeholders.

Preferred, but not essential

• Hands-on administration of Veeam Backup & Replication, including backup jobs, repositories, proxies, restore testing and recovery troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
• Experience working in an MSP, shared-service or multi-entity enterprise environment.
• Working knowledge of ITIL-aligned incident, problem, change and configuration management.
• Exposure to monitoring or automation tools such as Zabbix, Ansible or Terraform.

Qualifications and certifications

• Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification is essential.
• An IT-related diploma, certificate or degree is preferred.
