Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Chemical Engineering Specialist to join a Richards Bay operation in KwaZulu-Natal. The role provides expert technical support, drives continuous improvement across complex industrial processes, and ensures strict safety and environmental compliance.

The successful candidate will troubleshoot operational issues, optimize plant performance, and develop SOPs while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering; 6+ years of industrial chemical engineering experience.
• Strong focus on operational support and process optimization.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex chemical processes.
• Knowledge of chemical kinetics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat/mass transfer.
• Experience with process simulation software is advantageous.
• Familiarity with health, safety and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical guidance to plant operations and maintenance teams.
• Analyze process data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
• Develop and implement strategies to enhance process reliability, safety, and product quality.
• Conduct root cause analysis for process deviations and equipment failures, implementing corrective actions.
• Oversee process improvement projects from conceptualization through implementation and validation.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
• Develop and update SOPs and process documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality control, and R&D on various initiatives.
• Participate in PHAs and risk assessments.
• Train and mentor junior engineers and technical staff.
