Job summary

Placements24 in Klerksdorp, North West, seeks a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to maintain and repair plant machinery, including pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, hydraulics, and pneumatics. You will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot faults, and support upgrades in a hands-on role.

The ideal candidate will have a Trade Qualification as a Mechanical Fitter or Millwright and at least 4 years of experience in industrial maintenance, with strong problem-solving and teamwork abilities.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as Mechanical Fitter or Millwright.
• Minimum 4 years hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance in an industrial plant.
• Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on a wide range of industrial machinery.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Experience with welding, machining, and use of precision measuring instruments.
• Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and lubrication systems.
• Knowledge of safety procedures, including lockout/tagout.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be based in or able to commute reliably to Klerksdorp, North West.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on all plant mechanical equipment, including lubrication, inspection, and testing.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults and failures in machinery such as pumps, conveyors, presses, and rotating equipment.
• Install, dismantle, and reassemble mechanical equipment and components.
• Work with blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand mechanical configurations and repair requirements.
• Service and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including cylinders, valves, and pumps.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are performed safely and in compliance with company policies and industry standards.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, parts used, and equipment history.
• Identify potential equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist with the implementation of new mechanical systems and upgrades.
• Participate in a rotating standby roster for emergency repairs as required.
