About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and experienced Industrial Hygiene and Sanitation Officer to oversee sanitation protocols at their facilities in George , Western Cape . This role is pivotal in ensuring a safe, healthy, and clean working environment for all employees and visitors, while also meeting stringent regulatory compliance standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive sanitation programs, conducting regular audits, and providing training to staff. This position requires a meticulous approach to detail and a deep understanding of hygiene best practices within an industrial context. You will play a key role in risk assessment and the mitigation of potential health hazards, contributing significantly to the operational integrity and reputation of the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain effective sanitation and hygiene programs across all operational areas.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with hygiene standards and regulations.
• Identify potential hygiene risks and implement corrective actions to mitigate them.
• Oversee waste management and pest control programs.
• Train staff on proper hygiene practices, sanitation procedures, and the safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Investigate and report on any hygiene-related incidents or complaints.
• Maintain accurate records of sanitation activities, inspections, and training.
• Stay current with relevant legislation, industry best practices, and emerging technologies in hygiene and sanitation.
• Collaborate with other departments, including Health & Safety, to ensure an integrated approach to workplace safety.
• Manage inventory of sanitation supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial hygiene or a similar sanitation management role.
• Strong knowledge of hygiene principles, sanitation practices, and relevant South African legislation.
• Experience with auditing and risk assessment methodologies.
• Proficiency in developing and delivering training programs.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must be able to work a hybrid schedule, balancing on-site responsibilities with remote administrative tasks.
