Placements24 is seeking an Industrial Equipment Maintenance Specialist in Durban to perform preventative maintenance on a range of production machinery. The role involves diagnosing mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults, electrical control troubleshooting, and reading blueprints to guide repairs.

You will maintain CMMS records, ensure safety compliance, and work with production teams to minimise downtime while driving continuous improvement across the facility in KwaZulu-Natal.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in industrial maintenance or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams.
• Familiarity with CMMS and safety procedures including lockout/tagout.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on lathes, mills, presses and conveyors.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent manufacturing firm located in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal , is actively seeking an Industrial Equipment Maintenance Specialist. This vital role ensures the optimal performance and longevity of all production machinery and associated equipment within their state-of-the-art facility. You will be responsible for preventative maintenance, diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical issues, and contributing to process improvement initiatives. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys problem-solving and takes pride in maintaining a safe and efficient operational environment. The role is critical to maintaining production uptime and efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing setting in Durban .

Key Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on a wide range of industrial machinery, including lathes, mills, presses, and conveyor systems.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment failures.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical control system issues on production machinery.
• Interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics to guide repair and maintenance activities.
• Conduct routine inspections of equipment to identify potential problems before they lead to breakdowns.
• Perform welding, fabrication, and general repair tasks as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities using the company's CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools, as well as diagnostic equipment.
• Collaborate with production teams to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing equipment reliability and reducing maintenance costs.

Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in repairing machinery.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams.
• Experience with troubleshooting and repairing common industrial electrical systems (e.g., motor controls, PLCs - basic understanding).
• Knowledge of safety procedures for industrial maintenance, including lockout/tagout.
• Familiarity with preventative maintenance principles and CMMS.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet maintenance schedules.
• Good communication skills for interacting with production staff and management.
• A relevant technical qualification (e.g., NQF Level 4 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering) is preferred.
• Must be able to work in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and available for occasional overtime or emergency call-outs.
