The ideal candidate has at least 5 years in maintenance engineering in heavy industry, with strong expertise across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, and hands-on CMMS experience.

• 5+ years in maintenance engineering within heavy industry/manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all plant equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system failures on production machinery.
• Oversee the installation of new equipment and ensure proper commissioning and integration.
• Manage maintenance schedules and resources effectively to meet production demands.
• Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Maintain detailed maintenance records, including work orders, parts usage, and equipment history.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in maintenance activities.
• Manage spare parts inventory and oversee procurement of necessary components.
• Collaborate with production teams to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption.
• Identify opportunities for equipment upgrades and process improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency.

About the Role

Our client, a leading industrial manufacturer based in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal , is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Engineer . This integral role focuses on ensuring the reliability and optimal performance of all plant machinery and equipment. The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing proactive maintenance strategies, troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical issues, and managing maintenance projects to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency. This is a crucial on-site position within the vibrant industrial hub of Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal .

• Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) software.


• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.


• Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and best practices in maintenance.


• Excellent project management and organizational skills.


• Strong communication and leadership abilities.


• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.


• Must be based in or able to relocate to the Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal area and be available for potential on-call duties.
