Job summary

ABB South Africa is seeking a highly skilled Industrial Automation Engineer to join our Johannesburg team. This role focuses on designing, programming, and commissioning advanced automation solutions using PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for industrial clients.

You will work across cross-functional teams to translate operational requirements into robust control systems, leveraging ABB, Siemens, and Rockwell platforms, with emphasis on safety and quality in line with international standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics/Electrical Engineering.
Minimum five years of hands-on industrial automation engineering experience.
Experience commissioning large-scale industrial control systems is highly advantageous.
Proficient in programming major PLC brands (ABB, Siemens, Rockwell).
Strong knowledge of Modbus and Profibus communication protocols.
Experience with SCADA and DCS software configuration and database management.

Responsibilities

Design, program, and configure PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for industrial applications.
Develop functional specifications, system architectures, and control philosophies.
Conduct FAT, testing, and on-site commissioning of automation systems.
Troubleshoot and optimize automation systems on client sites.
Collaborate with project managers and electrical engineers to ensure timely delivery.
Provide technical support and training to clients and internal teams.
Ensure designs meet local and international safety standards.
