Placements24 is seeking an experienced In-House Counsel to join its legal team in Upington, Northern Cape. This hybrid role combines office collaboration with remote work, supporting multiple business functions on commercial matters.

You will draft and negotiate contracts, advise on governance and regulatory compliance, and coordinate with external counsel when needed. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of PQE in commercial law and a pragmatic, business-focused approach.

About the Role

Our client, a growing and innovative commercial enterprise with diverse operations, is actively seeking an experienced In-House Counsel to join their legal team. This hybrid role offers the ideal candidate a balanced working arrangement, combining essential office collaboration in Upington, Northern Cape with the flexibility of remote work. The In-House Counsel will provide broad legal support across various business functions, with a particular focus on general commercial matters, contracts, and corporate governance. We are looking for a commercially astute legal professional with a pragmatic approach and a strong understanding of business operations. You will be an integral part of a small, dynamic legal department, working closely with senior management and various operational teams. Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including sales contracts, service agreements, partnership agreements, and NDAs.
• Provide legal advice on day-to-day commercial activities and operational matters.
• Ensure compliance with relevant South African laws and regulations across all business units.
• Assist with corporate governance matters, including board meeting preparation and statutory compliance.
• Support the business on intellectual property matters, data protection, and employment law issues.
• Manage and liaise with external legal counsel when specialized advice or litigation support is required.
• Conduct legal research and provide clear, concise advice to business stakeholders.
• Develop and implement internal policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks.
• Stay informed about legal and regulatory changes impacting the company's industry in Upington, Northern Cape .
• Contribute to a positive and efficient legal department culture.

Requirements

• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized institution.
• Admission as an Attorney or Advocate of the High Court of South Africa.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience, preferably with a strong commercial law background.
• Proven experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Solid understanding of general corporate law and compliance requirements.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
