Job summary

Placements24 in Cape Town is seeking a compassionate Child Protection Social Worker to safeguard children and youth, assess cases, and develop intervention plans. You will work with families, schools, and agencies to ensure safety and well-being, providing ongoing support and advocacy.

The role requires registration with SACSSP, a relevant degree, and at least 3 years of child protection experience. Travel around the Cape Town region and detailed report writing are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work is required.
• Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) is mandatory.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in child protection or child welfare services.
• Knowledge of South Africa's child protection laws, policies and procedures.
• Excellent assessment, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication, including report writing and court testimony.
• Ability to manage a caseload, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency with case management software.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within Cape Town region.

Responsibilities

• Investigate allegations of child abuse, neglect and endangerment with comprehensive risk assessments.
• Develop, implement and monitor child protection plans with families and stakeholders.
• Provide direct casework services, including support, counselling, and crisis intervention.
• Coordinate with police, schools, healthcare providers and agencies to ensure child safety.
• Prepare detailed reports for court proceedings and child protection committees.
• Represent the agency in hearings related to child welfare matters.
• Advocate for children's rights and needs, ensuring their voices are heard.
• Support foster parents and alternative caregivers.
• Attend case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings.
