Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Hydraulic Systems Technician for a George, Western Cape role combining on-site service with remote tasks. You will install, maintain and repair hydraulic systems on agricultural machinery, diagnose faults, and ensure system reliability for customers in the Garden Route and beyond.

The position requires hands-on work, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a hybrid model while traveling regionally. A trade qualification and hydraulic experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification or equivalent experience in hydraulic systems.
• Experience with hydraulic pumps, valves and motors.
• Ability to read hydraulic schematics and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, maintain and repair hydraulic systems on agricultural machinery.

• Perform routine maintenance: fluid changes, filter replacements and flushing.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the agricultural machinery sector, is seeking a skilled Hydraulic Systems Technician to join their team in George, Western Cape. This hybrid role offers a blend of on-site responsibilities and the flexibility to work remotely. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex hydraulic systems within agricultural equipment. You will play a critical role in ensuring the operational efficiency and reliability of our client's machinery, contributing directly to the productivity of their customers. This position requires a hands-on approach, a meticulous attention to detail, and a strong commitment to quality service. Key Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, maintain, and repair hydraulic systems on various types of agricultural machinery.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic system faults, including leaks, pressure issues, and component failures.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as fluid changes, filter replacements, and system flushing.
• Test and calibrate hydraulic components and systems to ensure optimal performance according to specifications.
• Interpret hydraulic schematics and technical diagrams to guide repair and installation processes.
• Fabricate or modify hydraulic hoses and fittings as needed.
• Maintain accurate service records, documenting all work performed, parts used, and time spent.
• Provide technical assistance and training to clients on hydraulic system operation and basic maintenance.
• Collaborate with sales and support teams to address client needs effectively.

Requirements

• Trade qualification as a Mechanic, Fitter and Turner, or relevant experience in hydraulic systems.
• Proven experience working with hydraulic systems, preferably in an industrial or agricultural machinery context.
• Strong understanding of hydraulic principles, components (pumps, valves, cylinders, motors), and their functions.
• Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and technical manuals.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment for hydraulic system testing.
• Good problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the region for on-site service calls.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work effectively within a hybrid model, balancing on-site duties with remote tasks.
