Placements24 is seeking an Agricultural Equipment Technician for on-site work in the Northern Cape. You will maintain, repair, and service tractors, harvesters and farm implements to keep operations productive.

You will diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic issues, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure safety standards are met in daily farming activities. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, diesel engine knowledge, and the ability to read technical manuals.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Agricultural Equipment Technician or similar role.
• Strong mechanical, diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Ability to read manuals and diagrams for various farm machines.
• Experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems and transmissions.
• Welding/fabrication experience is a plus.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and servicing of agricultural machinery and equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in farm equipment.
• Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance to minimize breakdowns and maximize equipment lifespan.
• Order and manage inventory of spare parts and supplies.
• Test and adjust repaired equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with safety standards and regulations.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
• Assist with the setup and calibration of new equipment.
• Adhere to farm policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an Agricultural Equipment Technician, Mechanic, or similar role.
• Strong mechanical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency in repairing various types of agricultural machinery (tractors, harvesters, implements).
• Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and transmissions.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
• Experience with welding and fabrication is a plus.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends, especially during peak farming seasons.
• Formal training or certification in diesel mechanics or agricultural equipment repair is highly desirable.
