Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Backend Software Developer for our Pietermaritzburg team. This hybrid role blends on-site collaboration with remote work flexibility to build robust backend systems and APIs for our telecom-focused platform.

You will work in an agile environment with frontend teams, focusing on scalable services, data integrity, security, and efficient queries across relational and NoSQL databases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
• 3+ years of backend software development experience.
• Proficiency in Java, Python, Node.js, or Go.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Familiarity with RESTful API design principles.
• Understanding of Git and agile development methodologies.
• Strong problem-solving skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy backend services and APIs.
• Develop and maintain databases with data integrity and efficient queries.
• Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate server-side logic.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
• Implement security and data protection measures.
