Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Research Scientist in Mahikeng, North West, ZA, to advance polymer systems through synthesis, modification, and processing. The role blends on-site lab work with remote elements in a hybrid setup, supporting cross-functional collaboration in a dynamic team.

You will develop and characterize polymers, explore structure–property relationships, and contribute to publications and reports, with opportunities for professional development within a supportive research

Qualifications

• PhD or Master's in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering.
• Hands-on experience in polymer synthesis and characterization.
• Proficiency with common polymer characterization instruments and techniques.
• Understanding of polymer processing principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a research team.
• Experience with polymer applications (e.g., coatings, adhesives) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research into the synthesis and modification of various polymer types.
• Investigate the structure-property relationships of new polymer formulations.
• Develop and optimize polymer processing techniques (e.g., extrusion, molding, film casting).
• Characterize polymers using techniques such as GPC, DSC, TGA, FTIR, and mechanical testing.
• Collaborate with colleagues on project goals, experimental design, and data interpretation.
• Maintain meticulous laboratory records and prepare technical reports.
• Assist in the preparation of research manuscripts for publication.
• Stay current with literature and advancements in polymer science and engineering.
• Contribute to troubleshooting and problem-solving in material development.
