Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Pharmaceutical Process Development Chemist to join their team in Mahikeng. The role covers development, optimization, and scale-up of API synthesis routes, translating lab work into robust manufacturing processes.

The candidate will drive process research, improve yields and purity, and document development efforts for regulatory submissions in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or related field.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in pharmaceutical process development or synthetic organic chemistry.
• Strong knowledge of organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and purification techniques.
• Experience with process safety assessments (e.g., HAZOP, reaction calorimetry).
• Proficiency in analytical techniques for chemical characterization.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize synthetic routes for APIs, focusing on efficiency, yield, purity, and scalability.
• Conduct process research and development studies, including reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and impurity profiling.
• Scale-up chemical processes from laboratory bench to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing scales.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges encountered during process development and scale-up.
• Characterize APIs and intermediates using analytical techniques such as NMR, MS, HPLC, and GC.
• Author process development reports, validation protocols, and regulatory submission documents.
