Job summary

WhatJobs Direct is seeking a proactive Media and Communications Officer to manage daily media interactions, craft press materials, and drive the organization’s communications strategy from Mahikeng, North West. The role requires strong writing, media knowledge, and agency engagement to enhance brand visibility.

You will coordinate with teams to deliver consistent messaging, monitor media trends, and support campaigns and events within a collaborative, hybrid work setup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in media relations, public relations, or communications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent grammar and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in social media management and content creation.
• Familiarity with media monitoring and reporting tools.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and manage multiple tasks under deadlines.
• Proactive attitude and strong organizational skills.
• Understanding of the North West media landscape is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Develop and draft press releases, media advisories, and other communication materials.
• Manage and update the organization’s website and social media platforms with engaging content.
• Respond to media inquiries and facilitate interviews with appropriate spokespeople.
• Monitor media coverage and social media for mentions and trends.
• Assist in planning and executing communication campaigns and events.
• Build and maintain relationships with local and regional media contacts.
• Support crisis communication plan implementation when necessary.
• Collaborate with internal departments to gather information and ensure consistent messaging.
• Contribute to development of communication strategies and plans.
• Analyze communication metrics and provide regular reports on performance.
