Job summary

Appsierra Group in Johannesburg seeks a Mid-Level Laravel Engineer to own backend features, build APIs, and ship reliable software using PHP and Laravel.

You will collaborate with product, design, QA, and DevOps teams across the full development lifecycle, mentor junior developers, and contribute to code quality and deployment practices in a hybrid, full-time role based in Bryanston, South Africa. Office days: Monday and Friday.

Qualifications

• Strong professional experience with PHP and Laravel.
• Backend web application development expertise.
• Experience building and integrating APIs.
• Solid understanding of relational databases.
• Experience shipping production software.
• Knowledge of full-stack development and frontend/backend integration.
• Proficient with Git and modern workflows.
• Understanding of CI/CD principles and pipelines.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to collaborate across development, QA, DevOps, product, and design teams.
• Willingness to take ownership and deliver features.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and improve web applications using PHP and Laravel.
• Develop robust backend functionality and APIs.
• Build production features from development through deployment.
• Contribute to scalable and maintainable application architecture.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across the application stack.
• Design, develop, and maintain APIs and integrations.
• Collaborate with frontend and other engineering teams for system integration.
• Ensure backend services reliably support application requirements.
• Work with databases and data-driven application functionality.
• Participate in code reviews and promote best practices.
