Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Instrumentation & Control Engineer to join their Upington operations. You will design, implement, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation and control systems across industrial processes, ensuring safe, efficient operation.

The role requires experience with DCS/PLC, P&IDs, SIS concepts, and involvement in HAZOP; hybrid work, travel to site, and collaboration with operations and maintenance teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical engineering with control systems specialization (required).
• 4–6 years in instrumentation and control engineering in an industrial setting (mining, chemical, power).
• Strong knowledge of PID control and process control principles.
• Experience with DCS/PLC programming (Honeywell, Emerson, Siemens/AB).
• Ability to read P&IDs, loop diagrams, and electrical schematics.

Responsibilities

• Design, specify and select instrumentation for measuring process variables (flow, pressure, temperature, level).
• Develop and maintain control strategies using DCS/PLC/SCADA systems.
• Calibrate instrumentation and troubleshoot control system failures.
• Create logic for control loops and SIS; participate in HAZOP studies.
• Prepare and update P&IDs, loop diagrams, and safety requirements.
