Placements24 invites applications for an energetic Energy Trader to join our client’s Mossel Bay trading desk. The role focuses on executing trades, managing risk, and identifying profitable opportunities in crude oil, natural gas, and refined products.

You will develop and implement trading strategies, monitor real-time market data, and liaise with brokers and analysts to optimize portfolio performance in a hybrid work setup overlooking the coastal location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics or related quantitative field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in energy commodity trading or portfolio management.
• Proven track record of successful trading in volatile markets.
• Deep understanding of energy market fundamentals and risk management principles.
• Familiarity with trading software and market data platforms is essential.

Responsibilities

• Execute trades in energy commodity markets across platforms (WTI, Brent, natural gas, power).
• Monitor real-time market data, news and geopolitical events impacting prices.
• Develop and implement short- and long-term trading strategies to maximize profit and manage risk.
• Analyze market trends and fundamentals to identify trading opportunities.
• Manage positions and exposures within risk limits and compliance rules.
• Communicate market conditions and trading performance with brokers and senior management.
