Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join their analytics team in Vereeniging, Gauteng. You will analyze large financial datasets, build predictive models, and derive actionable insights to drive strategic decisions.

You will collaborate with risk, marketing and product teams, translating business needs into data-driven solutions while adhering to financial regulations. A hybrid work setup is provided to balance in-office and remote work.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a Data Scientist or in a similar analytical role, preferably within financial services.
• Proficiency in Python or R and libraries (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch).
• Strong knowledge of SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
• Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib).
• Solid understanding of statistical modeling, hypothesis testing, and ML algorithms.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid team environment.
• Prior experience or understanding of the financial sector in Vereeniging, Gauteng is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Collect, clean, and process large, complex financial datasets from various sources.
• Develop, validate, and deploy statistical and machine learning models for prediction, classification, and forecasting.
• Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in financial data.
• Create compelling data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate with business units to understand their needs and translate them into data-driven solutions.
• Contribute to the development of data infrastructure and best practices for data analysis and model deployment.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in data science, ML, and financial analytics.
• Conduct A/B testing and other experiments to evaluate the impact of data-driven initiatives.
• Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and compliance with financial regulations.
