About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Design and specify HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, boilers, ductwork, and piping, for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.
• Perform load calculations, system sizing, and energy modeling using specialized software (e.g., HAP, Trace 700).
• Develop detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications using AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
• Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, gather project requirements, and provide technical support during installation and commissioning.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant building codes, standards (e.g., SANS, ASHRAE), and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with project teams to integrate HVAC designs with other building systems, such as electrical, plumbing, and fire protection.
• Prepare cost estimates and technical proposals for HVAC system installations and upgrades.
• Troubleshoot and resolve HVAC system issues during design, construction, and post-occupancy phases.
• Maintain project documentation and ensure all engineering records are accurate and up-to-date.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with a specialization in HVAC.
• Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in HVAC system design and engineering.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., HAP, Trace 700) and CAD/BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit MEP).
• Thorough knowledge of HVAC principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and energy efficiency strategies.
• Familiarity with South African building codes and relevant international standards.
