Placements24 is seeking an innovative HVAC Design Engineer for a leading engineering consultancy in Benoni. You will design and specify heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for commercial projects, ensuring energy efficiency and occupant comfort.

The ideal candidate has a mechanical engineering degree, at least five years in HVAC design for commercial buildings, and proficiency with Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, Carrier HAP, and Trane Trace.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years' HVAC design experience for commercial buildings.
• Proficiency in Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, Carrier HAP, and Trane Trace.
• Strong understanding of building physics, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
• Knowledge of building codes and energy regulations.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Based in or willing to commute to Benoni, Gauteng.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems for commercial, retail, and institutional buildings from concept to completion.
• Perform load calculations and equipment sizing using HVAC design software.
• Develop detailed design documentation including schematics, P&IDs, and schedules.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent engineering consultancy specializing in building services, is looking for an innovative HVAC Design Engineer to join their thriving practice in Benoni . This role is central to the design and specification of advanced heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for a diverse portfolio of commercial projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong theoretical foundation in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, coupled with practical experience in HVAC system design using industry-standard software. You will play a key role in ensuring comfortable, energy-efficient, and healthy indoor environments for building occupants.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer HVAC systems for commercial, retail, and institutional buildings from concept to completion.
• Perform load calculations, system selection, and equipment sizing using specialized HVAC design software (e.g., Revit MEP, HAP, Trace 700).
• Develop detailed design documentation, including schematics, P&IDs, equipment schedules, and specifications.
• Collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, and other building services consultants to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Conduct site surveys and inspections during the construction phase to ensure compliance with design intent.
• Assist in the commissioning of HVAC systems and troubleshoot any performance issues.
• Research and incorporate innovative and sustainable HVAC technologies to optimize energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
• Prepare technical reports and present design proposals to clients and project stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in HVAC design for commercial buildings.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace).
• Solid understanding of building physics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and psychrometrics.
• Knowledge of relevant building codes, standards, and energy regulations.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage project timelines and deliverables effectively.
• Experience with sustainable building design principles (e.g., LEED) is a plus.
• Must be based in or able to commute to Benoni , Gauteng.
