Job summary

Whats On in South Africa is seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead HR strategy, payroll, and compliance in Pretoria. You will manage recruitment, payroll (Pastel Payroll, Payspace), and labour relations while supporting management on engagement and culture initiatives.

The role requires a Bachelor's in HR/Industrial Psychology and 8–10 years generalist HR experience, with strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in HRM/Industrial Psychology or related field.
  • 8–10 years' generalist HR experience.
  • 5+ years in an HR Management role.
  • Extensive payroll experience using Pastel Payroll and Payspace.
  • Strong knowledge of SA labour legislation and HR best practices.
  • Experience in Labour Relations, CCMA, EE, BBBEE and Skills Development.
  • Construction/engineering or unionised environment experience advantageous.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Manage the full recruitment and selection process.
  • Oversee HR administration and monthly payroll using Pastel Payroll and Payspace.
  • Ensure monthly BCCEI submissions and ongoing compliance.
  • Provide guidance on Labour Relations, including CCMA and bargaining council matters.
  • Drive employee relations, engagement and organisational culture initiatives.
  • Develop and manage performance management processes.
  • Coordinate training and development, including WSP and ATR submissions.
  • Manage compensation, benefits and remuneration administration.
  • Develop, review and implement HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all South African labour legislation.
  • Maintain accurate HR records and management reports.
  • Manage Employment Equity, BBBEE and Skills Development compliance.
  • Oversee statutory payroll submissions, including PAYE, UIF, provident fund, bargaining council, union contributions, IT88 and EMP501 reconciliations.
  • Partner with management to provide strategic HR support and drive continuous improvement.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Manage the full recruitment and selection process.
  • Oversee all HR administration and monthly payroll using Pastel Payroll and Payspace .
  • Ensure monthly BCCEI submissions and ongoing compliance.
  • Provide guidance and support on Labour Relations matters, including disciplinary hearings, grievances, CCMA and bargaining council matters.
  • Drive employee relations, engagement and organisational culture initiatives.
  • Develop and manage performance management processes.
  • Coordinate training and development initiatives, including WSP and ATR submissions.
  • Manage compensation, benefits and remuneration administration.
  • Develop, review and implement HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all South African labour legislation.
  • Maintain accurate HR records and produce management reports.
  • Manage Employment Equity, BBBEE and Skills Development compliance.
  • Oversee statutory payroll submissions, including PAYE, UIF, provident fund, bargaining council, union contributions, IT88 submissions and bi-annual and annual EMP501 reconciliations.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology or a related field.
  • Minimum 810 years' generalist HR experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in an HR Management role.
  • Extensive payroll experience using Pastel Payroll and Payspace .
  • Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation and HR best practices.
  • Proven experience in Labour Relations, CCMA, Employment Equity, BBBEE and Skills Development.
  • Experience within the construction, engineering or a unionised environment will be advantageous.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
