Placements24 is seeking a Horticultural Production Supervisor for Centurion, Gauteng. You will oversee daily cultivation, maintenance, and harvest of a variety of crops, leading a farm crew with a focus on quality, efficiency, and sustainable growing practices.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in horticultural production, strong leadership, and hands-on experience with irrigation, IPM, and record-keeping. Must hold a relevant degree or diploma and a valid driver’s license for site visits.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, or related discipline.
• 3–5 years of experience in horticultural production with supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of horticultural best practices for crops in Gauteng; greenhouse/open-field experience.
• Familiarity with irrigation systems, fertilization techniques, and IPM strategies.
• Valid driver’s license for site visits in Centurion area.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the horticultural production team (planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, harvesting).
• Ensure practices meet quality standards and schedules.
• Monitor plant health, growth, and environmental conditions in greenhouse and fields.
• Manage irrigation and fertilization programs according to crop needs.
• Oversee pest and disease scouting and IPM implementation.
• Coordinate harvesting with post-harvest handling and packing operations.
• Maintain records of planting, growing conditions, treatments, yields and labor.
• Train farm workers on techniques, safety, and protocols.
• Ensure maintenance and operation of horticultural equipment and tools.

About the Role

Our client, a distinguished horticultural enterprise renowned for its high-quality produce, is seeking a dedicated Horticultural Production Supervisor for its operations in Centurion, Gauteng . This role is instrumental in overseeing the daily cultivation, maintenance, and harvesting of a variety of horticultural crops. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plant science, practical experience in horticultural techniques, and excellent leadership abilities to manage a farm crew effectively. Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the horticultural production team, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, and harvesting.
• Ensure that all horticultural practices are carried out efficiently and adhere to quality standards and schedules.
• Monitor plant health, growth, and environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity, light) within greenhouses and fields.
• Implement and manage irrigation systems and fertilization programs according to crop needs.
• Oversee pest and disease scouting and management programs, ensuring the use of integrated pest management (IPM) strategies where possible.
• Manage the harvesting process to ensure optimal quality and yield, coordinating with post-harvest handling and packing operations.
• Maintain detailed records of planting, growing conditions, treatments, yields, and labor.
• Train and guide farm workers on proper horticultural techniques, safety procedures, and operational protocols.
• Ensure the proper maintenance and operation of all horticultural equipment and tools.
• Contribute to crop planning and production forecasting based on market demand and resource availability.

Requirements

• A relevant degree or diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, or a related discipline.
• At least 3-5 years of experience in horticultural production, with a focus on supervisory responsibilities.
• Proven knowledge of horticultural best practices for various crops relevant to the Gauteng region.
• Experience with greenhouse management and/or open-field crop production.
• Familiarity with irrigation systems, fertilization techniques, and pest/disease management strategies.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and direct staff.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Good communication and record-keeping abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a physically demanding environment and varying weather conditions.
• A valid driver's license is required for site visits within the Centurion area.
