About the Role

Our client, a highly respected professional rugby union, is seeking an experienced and inspirational Head Coach to lead their elite academy program based in Polokwane, Limpopo . This critical role involves developing and nurturing top-tier rugby talent, implementing advanced training methodologies, and preparing players for senior team selection. The Head Coach will be responsible for all aspects of the academy's technical direction, player welfare, and performance enhancement. This is an on-site position requiring full dedication to the development of young athletes in the Polokwane region. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of rugby strategy, exceptional coaching skills, and a proven track record in player development at an elite level.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive coaching philosophy and technical program for the academy players.
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of assistant coaches, strength and conditioning specialists, and support staff.
• Oversee all on-field training sessions, tactical planning, and game preparation for academy teams.
• Identify, recruit, and retain high-potential young rugby players from the region and beyond.
• Monitor player development, performance metrics, and individual progress, providing constructive feedback and personalized training plans.
• Ensure the physical and mental well-being of all academy players, working closely with medical and support staff.
• Foster a positive team culture centered on discipline, teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with the senior team coaching staff and management regarding player pathways and transitions.
• Manage the academy's operational budget and resources effectively.
• Stay abreast of the latest developments in rugby coaching, sports science, and player development strategies globally.

Requirements

• Extensive coaching experience at a high level, preferably with professional or semi-professional rugby teams, or within elite youth development programs.
• Possession of World Rugby Level 3 (or equivalent) coaching accreditation is mandatory. Higher levels are advantageous.
• A proven track record of developing talent and successfully transitioning players to higher levels of competition.
• In-depth knowledge of rugby tactics, player conditioning, injury prevention, and sports psychology.
• Exceptional leadership, motivational, and communication skills.
• Strong organizational and strategic planning abilities.
• Experience in managing coaching staff and budgets.
• Ability to work flexible and demanding hours, including evenings, weekends, and during competitive seasons.
• A passion for player development and a commitment to upholding the values of the sport.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Polokwane, Limpopo .
