About the Role

This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of athletic health care, including injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for student-athletes across various sports programs. You will be responsible for managing a team of athletic trainers, developing and implementing comprehensive injury management protocols, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and best practices. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of the athletic training department, managing staff and resources.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive injury prevention programs for all sports.
• Provide immediate medical care for athletic injuries, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
• Supervise and guide the rehabilitation process for injured athletes, ensuring a safe and effective return to play.
• Collaborate with team physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate athlete care.
• Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all student-athletes.
• Educate athletes, coaches, and parents on injury prevention, health, and wellness.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant athletic association rules and regulations (e.g., SASCOC, WADA).
• Manage the athletic training budget, including equipment procurement and inventory.
• Stay current with advancements in sports medicine, athletic training techniques, and therapeutic modalities.
• Lead and mentor assistant athletic trainers and interns.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related field.
• Current and valid certification as an Athletic Trainer (e.g., BOC certified) is essential.
• Registered with the Board of Health Care Funders (BHF) or relevant South African professional body.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in athletic training, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Proven experience in injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and therapeutic exercise.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
• Proficiency in electronic medical record-keeping systems.
• CPR/AED and first cost does .
