Job summary

Goldi, part of the Astral Group, seeks a skilled Hatchery Manager to oversee Standerton hatchery operations, ensuring production, quality, hygiene and KPI targets are met. You will lead a diverse team, manage budgets, and uphold bio-security and animal welfare standards.

The role requires 5+ years in hatchery or poultry management, a BSC in Agriculture or related qualification, strong leadership, communication and data analysis skills, and the ability to perform under pressure.

Qualifications

• BSc Degree in Agriculture or relevant tertiary qualification would be advantageous.
• 5+ years of experience in hatchery operations or poultry management or maintenance management.
• Understanding of hatchery management software and data analysis tools.
• Experience with budget management and financial forecasting.
• Understanding of biosecurity measures and animal welfare.
• Strong leadership and team-building skills.
• Focus on people and excellent communication.
• Valid driving license.
• Able to work under pressure and adapt to changing environments.

Responsibilities

• Report to the Hatchery Operations Manager.
• Manage Standerton based hatchery operations including incubation, hatching and chick delivery, maintenance and ensuring production efficiency and chick quality.
• Mentor and manage hatchery staff, promoting safety and professional growth.
• Develop and implement strategies to maximise productivity while minimising costs.
• Establish and maintain bio-security protocols to safeguard flock health and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain company assets and strive to improve results.
• Work in a team with tact and patience.
• Ensure adherence to health and safety and animal welfare requirements.
• Control production processes and maintain quality and volumes.
• Assist in preparing budgets and controlling running expenses.
• Ensure highest product quality and hygiene standards.

Role Overview

Goldi, one of South Africa's leading integrated poultry producers within the Astral Group, is seeking a highly skilled Hatchery Manager, to oversee the daily hatchery operations, ensuring production, quality, hygiene and performance targets are achieved. The role includes managing employees, controlling costs, maintaining company assets and ensuring compliance with health, safety, risk and bio-security standards. The successful candidate must provide strong leadership, drive continuous improvement and perform effectively in a high-pressure environment.

Role Responsibilities

• The role will report to the Hatchery Operations Manager.
• Responsible for the management of the Standerton based hatchery operations, including incubation, hatching and chick delivery, maintenance, ensuring the best production efficiency and day-old chick quality.
• Manage and mentor a diverse team of hatchery staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability and professional growth.
• Develop and implement operational strategies to maximise productivity while minimizing costs.
• Establish and maintain bio-security protocols to safeguard flock health and maintain compliance with industry regulations.
• Maintaining the company’s assets and constantly striving to improve results.
• Work efficiently in a team environment with tact and patience.
• Maintaining Risk control, Occupational Health, Environmental control and Animal welfare requirements and standards as per relevant legislation and Astral Standard Operating practices.
• Control of production processes and responsible for maintaining production standards in terms of quality and volumes.
• Assist in preparing budgets, managing and controlling running expenses.
• Ensuring the highest product quality/ hygiene standards are always maintained.
• Adhering to Health and Safety requirements and laws.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPI's) and implement corrective actions as needed to achieve operational targets.
• Implementation and maintenance of the 20 keys Operational Improvement programmes.

Required Qualification And Knowledge
