Job summary

Square 1 Recruitment seeks a hands-on Workshop & Production Manager in Kempton Park, South Africa. You will bridge technical execution and operational leadership, leading from the shop floor and ensuring production runs smoothly while staying involved in workshop activities as needed.

The role requires at least 5 years in workshop or production management, strong planning, and a proven record of developing teams in manufacturing or construction settings.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience managing a workshop or production facility.
• Strong production planning and scheduling experience.
• Proven leadership experience managing workshop or production teams.
• Construction or manufacturing industry experience is essential.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Hands-on welding ability (TIG, ARC, CO₂ and Spot Welding) and use of power tools.
• Basic electrical, plumbing and building maintenance knowledge.
• Strong stock control and procurement experience.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
• Valid driver's license and own transport.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the daily operations of the workshop and production department.
• Plan, schedule and monitor production to meet deadlines and quality standards.
• Supervise, mentor and develop workshop staff.
• Assist with welding, repairs, fault finding and workshop activities.
• Manage stock levels, procurement and workshop resources.
• Read, interpret and implement technical drawings and production specifications.
• Oversee maintenance of workshop equipment and facilities.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
• Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and maintain a safe working environment.
