Job summary

University of Fort Hare invites applications for a Junior Sales Engineer based in Woodmead, Gauteng. You will monitor client portals for RFQs, prepare quotations and proposals, and develop strong client relationships to drive growth.

The role requires an engineering qualification (preferably Chemical Engineering or related field) and a minimum of 2 years’ sales/business development experience, ideally in water/wastewater.

Qualifications

• Engineering qualification, preferably in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 2 years' sales/business development experience, ideally in the water/wastewater industry.
• Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment systems, chemicals, consumables, and spares.
• Established network within industrial, consultant, and supplier markets.
• Proficiency in MS Office; Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Strong business development and sales skills.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation abilities.
• Commercial understanding of pricing, contracts, and margins.
• Ability to manage long sales cycles and multiple stakeholders.
• Strong technical knowledge of water and wastewater treatment technologies.
• Focus on growing both new and existing customer accounts.

Responsibilities

• Monitor client portals for RFQs and tender opportunities.
• Prepare and submit quotations, proposals, and tenders.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
• Identify and secure new business opportunities through client visits, networking, and cold calling.
• Manage the sales pipeline from prospecting to contract award.
• Track and report on sales activities and pipeline performance.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and SHEQ requirements.
