About the Role
Our client seeks a knowledgeable Grid Integration Specialist to join their team in Queenstown , playing a crucial role in connecting renewable energy sources to the national grid. This position involves analyzing grid stability, ensuring compliance with grid codes, and facilitating the smooth integration of distributed and large-scale energy projects. You will work closely with grid operators, developers, and engineering teams to overcome technical challenges and support the expansion of a reliable and sustainable energy network in the region, contributing to a vital aspect of modern power infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze the impact of new renewable energy projects on the existing power grid, assessing stability, capacity, and protection requirements.
- Develop and implement strategies for the safe and efficient integration of distributed generation and storage systems.
- Ensure compliance with national and international grid codes, interconnection standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with utility companies and grid operators to coordinate connection studies and approvals for new energy projects.
- Provide technical expertise on grid interconnection challenges, including power quality, fault levels, and voltage regulation.
- Contribute to the development of grid modernization initiatives and smart grid technologies to enhance grid flexibility and reliability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related Power Systems field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on grid integration and renewable energy connections.
- Strong understanding of power system analysis tools (e.g., PSS/E, PowerFactory) and grid interconnection studies.
- Knowledge of renewable energy technologies (solar, wind) and their interaction with power grids.
- Familiarity with national grid codes and regulatory frameworks relevant to South Africa.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong written and verbal communication abilities.
