Centurion, South Africa
Our client, an established signage, branding and large-format print business, is looking for a production-minded Graphic Designer to join its design team. This role suits a designer who enjoys seeing artwork come off the machines, not just the screen.
You will create original artwork and prepare print-ready files for every production department, including digital and UV-flatbed printing, CNC cutting, laser engraving and vehicle wraps, turning client briefs into accurate designs that go into production without delay. You will work closely with the sales and production teams and the workshop.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and artwork
- Design original artwork and adapt client-supplied artwork for signage, perspex, vehicle wraps, packaging and display products.
- Liaise with clients and the sales team to clarify briefs, sizing and specifications.
- Ensure designs meet brand guidelines, client requirements and production feasibility.
- Manage time effectively so that all designs are completed by their deadlines.
File setup and production support
- Set up print-ready files with correct bleed, resolution, colour profiles and cut lines for every department.
- Prepare vector cut files for CNC routing, laser cutting and digital cutting tables.
- Work with each department to understand machine limitations and output capabilities, and adapt designs accordingly.
- Proof all files for accuracy before release to production and obtain sign-off where required.
- Visit the production floor to inspect print proofs and check colour accuracy on the machines.
Materials, quality and records
- Order materials for print and production jobs and liaise with suppliers.
- Track material orders and follow up on delays that could affect production schedules.
- Check work for accuracy, quality and finish before it moves to the next stage.
- Maintain an organised digital archive of artwork files and client assets.
Health and safety
- Follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act and company safety procedures, wear the required PPE on the production floor and attend safety briefings.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A diploma or degree in Graphic Design or a related field.
- At least 2 years’ experience as a designer in a signage, print or branding environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, and/or CorelDRAW.
- Solid print pre-press knowledge: bleed, resolution, CMYK and colour profiles, and cut lines.
- Experience preparing vector cut files for CNC, laser or vinyl cutting.
- A portfolio showing signage, vehicle wrap or large-format work.
ADVANTAGEOUS
- Vehicle wrap design and templating experience.
- Exposure to UV-flatbed, CNC routing and laser engraving workflows.
- Experience with colour management on wide-format printers.
THE PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Highly accurate, with a sharp eye for detail and finish.
- Calm and organised under pressure, with tight turnarounds driven by installation deadlines.
- Practical and production-aware: designs with the machine and material in mind.
- A clear communicator who works well with sales, production and workshop teams.
- Comfortable with long periods of screen work as well as time on the factory floor.
