Job summary

Tumaini Consulting is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer based in Cape Town to contribute to the conceptualization and detailed design of mechanical systems. You will ensure designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements across cutting-edge projects.

You will develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings, perform root cause analysis, and collaborate with manufacturing to ensure manufacturability and cost efficiency, while applying stress and thermal analyses to validate designs

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• At least 5 years of experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar software; familiarity with FEA.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for mechanical components and assemblies using CAD software.
• Perform root cause analysis for design failures and implement corrective actions to improve product reliability.
• Work closely with manufacturing and production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
• Conduct stress analysis and thermal performance evaluations to validate designs before production.
• Contribute to the development of technical specifications and bills of materials.
• Participate in design reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring design intent is met.
