Job summary

Together Staffing group is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a Somerset West-based engineering and product development client. You will design mechanical components and assemblies from concept through production, collaborating with international teams on propulsion and heavy-industrial systems.

Applicants should have 3+ years of mechanical design experience, strong 3D CAD skills (Siemens NX preferred, others considered), and a good grasp of GD&T, DFMA, and engineering documentation.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience in mechanical design and/or product development.
• Experience designing complex mechanical systems and assemblies.
• Experience from concept through detailed design, manufacturing, testing, and implementation.
• Strong 3D CAD experience; NX preferred; others considered.
• Experience producing technical drawings and engineering documentation.
• Good understanding of GD&T, materials, manufacturing processes, and production methods.
• Familiarity with DFMA.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; good English communication.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and system layouts from concept through to production.
• Create detailed 3D models, technical drawings, engineering calculations, and analyses.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant technical specifications, standards, and certification requirements.
• Collaborate with international and multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges.
• Conduct feasibility studies and validate design decisions through calculations and simulations.
• Improve and optimise existing products and mechanical designs.
• Prepare and present technical documentation and design findings.
• Take ownership of assigned mechanical design projects and deliverables.

Requirements

• BEng/BSc/BTech/MEng in Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical design and/or product development
• Proven experience designing complex mechanical systems and assemblies
• Experience taking designs from concept through detailed design, manufacturing, testing, and implementation
• Strong 3D CAD experience; Siemens NX preferred, with SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, CATIA, or similar also considered
• Experience producing technical drawings and engineering documentation
• Good understanding of GD&T, materials, manufacturing processes, and production methods
• Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Good English communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and international engineering teams
• Proactive approach with a willingness to develop technically
• Experience with rotating equipment, gearboxes, drivetrains, propulsion systems, maritime applications, or heavy-industrial systems advantageous
