EY in Johannesburg seeks an experienced Global Markets professional to advise on complex valuations, accounting and regulatory matters across financial instruments. You will lead high-quality engagements, interact with senior stakeholders, and contribute to EY's growing banking and capital markets offering.

You will work with front office, finance and risk teams, applying technical accounting and market knowledge while mentoring junior staff and supporting business development.

Our Financial Services Banking practice helps leading institutions navigate complex market, valuation, accounting and regulatory matters. We are looking for an experienced Global Markets professional who can bring deep product knowledge, strong technical judgement and commercial insight to our clients.

About the opportunity

As part of our Financial Services Banking team, you will advise clients on complex Global Markets matters across financial instruments, valuations, accounting and risk. You will lead high-quality engagements, work closely with senior stakeholders and contribute to the growth of our banking and capital markets offering.

Client responsibilities

• Lead and deliver complex Global Markets engagements across banking and capital markets
• Advise clients on financial instrument valuations, technical accounting and related control considerations
• Assess valuation methodologies, models, market data and key assumptions across relevant asset classes
• Provide technical guidance on IFRS 9, IFRS 13 and other applicable accounting and regulatory requirements
• Identify, evaluate and communicate key engagement risks, findings and practical recommendations
• Manage engagement economics, timelines, quality and resourcing, and keep partners and clients informed of significant matters
• Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across front office, finance, risk, treasury and internal audit
• Support business development by identifying client needs, developing solutions and contributing to proposals
• Coach and develop team members while promoting collaboration, professional scepticism and high-quality delivery
• Contribute to the continued development of EY's Global Markets capabilities, methodologies and market profile

Qualifications and experience

• CA(SA) qualification; CFA or a relevant postgraduate qualification is advantageous
• Strong Global Markets or Corporate and Investment Banking experience gained within a bank, professional services firm or comparable institution
• Preferably five to eight years of relevant post-qualification experience
• Demonstrated experience with financial instruments, valuations and technical accounting
• Practical knowledge of Global Markets products, including derivatives, fixed income, foreign exchange, commodities or equities
• Experience working with leading banking institutions and senior stakeholders
• A sound understanding of market, credit, liquidity, model and operational risk within a Global Markets environment
• Strong leadership, project management, communication and commercial skills

Technical skills requirements

• Advanced knowledge of IFRS 9 and IFRS 13, including classification, measurement, fair-value hierarchy and disclosures
• Strong understanding of valuation techniques for complex financial instruments and derivatives
• Ability to assess models, data sources, assumptions, valuation adjustments and independent price verification processes
• Knowledge of trading products, front-to-back processes and the control environment supporting Global Markets activities
• Understanding of relevant prudential, conduct and financial reporting requirements affecting banks
• Ability to interpret complex information and present clear, practical recommendations to senior stakeholders
• Proficiency in analysing large data sets and using technology-enabled approaches to improve engagement delivery
