Job summary

AngloGold Ashanti in Johannesburg seeks a Senior Specialist Geotechnical – Africa (Open Pit) to provide specialist geotechnical engineering support across operations and projects, acting as a tactical advisor on rock/soil mechanics, hydrology, and hydrogeology.

You will deploy to sites, lead data management, drive compliance, and mentor engineers while embedding best practices in ground control and risk management to optimise regional asset performance.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Geology, Mining, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related discipline (post-graduate qualification desirable).
• 8+ years of on-site open pit mining experience with QA/QC, risk management and data collection.
• Experience in Ground Control Management Plans (GCMP) and Trigger Action Response Procedures (TARP).

Responsibilities

• Execute tactical open pit designs and reviews.
• Support technical compliance audits and develop roadmaps for data collection/structural model deviations.
• Deploy to sites in secondment roles to enhance workforce development and technical capability transfer.
• Provide data inputs to short- and medium-term plans for ground control and asset optimization.
• Deliver training to site personnel on data management systems and GRiP implementations.
