Placements24 is seeking a senior Geotechnical Engineer to support extensive mining operations in Welkom. You will assess ground conditions, design safe underground and open-pit structures, and manage geotechnical risks to protect personnel and optimize extraction processes.

The role requires strong expertise in rock mechanics, hydrogeology and instrumentation, with responsibility for reports and recommendations guiding mine planning and operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 7 years' geotechnical experience, preferably in mining.
• Proficient in Rocscience/FLAC for analysis and modeling.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geological and geotechnical investigations and analysis for mining projects.
• Design and oversee ground support systems and slope stability measures.
• Perform seismic risk, rock mechanics and mine stability assessments.
• Monitor ground conditions and advise on preventive or remedial actions.
• Develop and manage geotechnical data acquisition and monitoring programs.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications and recommendations for mine planning.

• Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and hydrogeology.
