Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join a mine stability and ground control team in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. You will assess ground conditions, design support systems, and manage geotechnical risks to prevent rockfalls and slope failures.

You will conduct site investigations, perform analyses, and provide expert recommendations to ensure safe mining operations. A minimum of 5 years’ geotechnical experience in mining and proficiency with Rocscience/Plaxis are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mining Engineering with geotechnical specialization.
• Minimum 5 years' geotechnical experience in mining.
• Proficient with Rocscience or Plaxis software.
• Strong rock and soil mechanics knowledge and slope stability analysis.
• Experience with instrumentation and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations and site assessments for open-pit and underground mine workings.
• Analyze rock mass properties, slope stability, and underground excavation stability using specialized software.
• Design and implement ground support systems including rock bolting, shotcrete, and mesh.
• Monitor ground conditions and assess performance of support systems through inspections and instrumentation.
• Develop and implement geotechnical risk management plans and emergency response procedures.
• Provide technical advice and training to mining operations personnel on geotechnical best practices.
