Placements24 in Richards Bay seeks a qualified Geotechnical Engineer to join our specialized team. You will evaluate subsurface conditions and advise on foundation design and earthworks for industrial facilities and coastal infrastructure, conducting site investigations and lab analyses.

You will develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions and collaborate with structural engineers to integrate geotechnical findings into project designs, ensuring compliance and overseeing earthworks

Qualifications

• BSc or BEng in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng registration with ECSA.
• At least 5 years geotechnical experience.
• Proficiency with PLAXIS, SLOPE/W or similar tools.
• Solid knowledge of SA ground conditions and construction practices.
• Strong analytical and reporting abilities.

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage site investigations (boreholes, CPTs, trial pits) to assess soil/rock properties.
• Analyze geotechnical data and perform stability analyses for foundations, slopes and retaining walls.
• Prepare geotechnical investigation reports with foundation and earthworks recommendations.
• Collaborate with structural engineers and project managers to integrate findings into designs.
• Oversee earthworks and foundation construction per design specs.
• Procure and supervise lab testing for soil and rock samples.

You will be responsible for conducting site investigations, laboratory testing analysis, and developing practical, cost-effective engineering solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Plan and manage site investigations, including boreholes, CPTs, and trial pits, to assess soil and rock properties.
• Analyze geotechnical data and perform stability analyses for foundations, slopes, and retaining walls.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical investigation reports, including recommendations for foundation types and earthworks.
• Collaborate with structural engineers and project managers to integrate geotechnical findings into overall project designs.
• Oversee and advise on the execution of earthworks and foundation construction, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
• Manage the procurement and supervision of laboratory testing services for soil and rock samples.

Requirements

• BSc or BEng in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng.
• A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in geotechnical engineering practice.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, or similar analytical tools.
