Job summary

RPO Recruitment's client, a leading engineering consulting firm in South Africa, seeks a Geometric Design Engineer to join the roads department in Cape Town.

You will lead geometric road design, prepare concept to detailed designs in Autodesk Civil 3D, and review alignments, intersections and corridor models.

The role requires a BEng/BSc/BTech in Civil Engineering, ECSA Pr Eng/Pr Tech Eng, 12+ years' experience, and delivering projects over R100 million.

Qualifications

• BEng/BSc or BTech in Civil Engineering
• Registered with ECSA as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng
• 12+ years' experience, with at least 5 years' post-registration in a consulting environment
• Proficient in Autodesk Civil 3D for road design (essential)
• Experience delivering projects valued at R100 million or more
• Thorough knowledge of TMH, TRH series, SANRAL requirements
• Strong understanding of road design principles, speeds, sight distances, and safety
• Excellent communication and report writing skills

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with traffic, pavement, drainage, and structural engineers

Job description

RPO Recruitment's client, a leading and reputable engineering consulting firm in South Africa is currently seeking a qualified and experienced Geometric Design Engineer to join their roads department in Cape Town as soon as possible.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute the geometric design of roads and transport infrastructure projects in accordance with SANRAL, provincial, and municipal standards
• Prepare concept, preliminary, and detailed geometric design using Autodesk Civil 3D
• Oversee and review horizontal and vertical alignments, cross-sections, intersections, and corridor modelling
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including traffic, pavement, drainage, and structural engineers
• Perform and review design calculations, cost estimates, BOQs, and design reports
• Conduct quality control reviews and ensure designs meet project and statutory requirements
• Provide technical support to project managers and mentor junior engineers and technicians
• Attend site meetings, inspections, and client engagements as required

Requirements

• Minimum of 12 years' experience, with at least 5 years' post-registration in a consulting environment
• Proficient in Autodesk Civil 3D for road and geometric design (essential)
• Demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of projects valued at R100 million or more
• Thorough knowledge of relevant design standards and codes (e.g., TMH, TRH series, SANRAL requirements)
• Strong understanding of geometric design principles, including road classifications, design speeds, sight distances, and safety considerations.
• Excellent communication, report writing, and coordination skills
