The University of the Free State invites applications for an Associate Professor/Professor (Permanent) and Academic Head of Department (Contract appointment: 5 years with the possibility of reappointment for a further term) in the Department of Geology. The role combines delivering undergraduate and postgraduate modules with journal publications and leadership responsibilities.

Ideal candidates hold a PhD in Geological Sciences, possess NRF recognition, and have a strong record in supervision,

Qualifications

• PhD on NQF Level 10 in Geological Sciences or a closely related field.
• Experience as an external examiner for postgraduate/master’s/doctoral students.
• Proven publication record in nationally and internationally accredited journals.
• NRF rating of C1, C2 or equivalent status.
• Proven supervision of postgraduate students (Masters/PhD).

Responsabilités

• Present undergraduate and postgraduate modules.
• Synthesize knowledge through publication of papers in peer-reviewed journals.
• Communicate research findings at conferences.
• Source funding for research from national and international bodies.
• Lead and participate in departmental and faculty leadership and administration.
• Supervise postgraduate students ( Masters & PhD ).
• Provide strategic and operational academic leadership as Academic Head of Department.
