Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Research Assistant to support a cutting-edge Genomics team in Durban. You will assist with daily lab operations, execute experimental protocols, and help manage data to advance understanding of genetic traits.

You will perform DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, library prep, operate sequencers and liquid handlers, and maintain careful records. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and hands-on genomics experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or related field.
• Hands-on laboratory experience, preferably in genomics workflows.
• Strong organization and meticulous attention to detail; able to follow complex protocols.
• Good communication and proactive learning attitude.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine molecular biology and genomics procedures, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and library preparation.
• Operate and maintain sequencers and automated liquid handlers.
• Record experimental data, manage sample inventories, and ensure lab organization.
• Prepare reagents and solutions per established protocols.
• Support senior researchers with experimental setup and troubleshooting.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe and compliant laboratory environment.
