Job description

Doctors on Demand South Africa is a telemedicine platform that provides accessible, affordable healthcare to households across the country via WhatsApp video calls. The service has grown rapidly, serving over 12,000 patients and earning more than 1100 five-star Google reviews since our launch in October 2023.

The clinical team is carefully recruited and supervised to ensure adherence to telemedicine protocols, maintaining world-class standards of care. Patients can connect with a doctor in just a few clicks, without downloading apps or creating profiles, and receive comprehensive care including prescriptions, lab referrals, specialist referrals, and medical certificates.

Role Description

This is a remote, contract role for a General Practitioner Telemedicine at Doctors on Demand South Africa. The GP will conduct virtual consultations via WhatsApp video call, taking medical histories, performing remote assessments, and providing evidence-based treatment plans. Day-to-day tasks include issuing prescriptions, ordering and interpreting lab investigations through partnered laboratories, and arranging appropriate referrals to medical specialists and allied health professionals.

The GP will document consultations accurately, follow established telemedicine protocols, and collaborate with the care team to ensure timely, patient-centered care. The role also involves maintaining high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical practice within a digital healthcare environment.

Remuneration

R100 per patient, with 4 available patient slots per hour

Qualifications

• Current registration as a Medical Practitioner (MBChB/MBBCH or equivalent) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
• Minimum of 1year clinical experience as a General Practitioner, with strong skills in history-taking, diagnosis, and management across common acute and chronic conditions.
• Comfort and competence in telemedicine practice, including conducting video consultations and making clinical decisions without in-person examination.
• Strong digital literacy, including confident use of WhatsApp, electronic records, and online communication tools.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain diagnoses and treatment plans clearly to patients from diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, patient confidentiality, and adherence to clinical and telemedicine protocols.
• Reliable internet connectivity, a quiet and professional workspace, and appropriate hardware to conduct video consultations.
• Ability to manage time effectively in a remote environment.
