Afrique Connection Consultancy is helping a well-run private GP practice in the Cape Town CBD and Sea Point seek a dedicated Locum General Practitioner. The role covers Cape Town City Centre and Sea Point, with a fixed-term contract of up to six months and a one-month mutual assessment period.

You will provide general medical consultations, keep accurate patient records, prescribe medications and manage repeat prescriptions.

About this position

Our client, a well-run private GP practice with rooms in the Cape Town CBD and Sea Point, is looking for a dedicated, patient-centred Locum General Practitioner. The practice provides inclusive, holistic and evidence-based care and accepts both cash and medical aid patients. This suits a doctor who enjoys the variety and flexibility of locum work in a supportive private practice.

About the role

• Fixed-term contract of up to six months, in line with HPCSA regulations.
• Includes a one-month mutual assessment period.
• Locations: Cape Town City Centre and Sea Point.
• 2-3 shifts per week, plus extended shifts for leave cover as needed.
• Shifts are scheduled three months ahead, with at least one full month's notice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide general medical consultations, diagnoses and treatments.
• Keep accurate, detailed patient records during consultations.
• Prescribe medication and manage repeat prescriptions.
• Complete motivations and medical aid forms, and respond to prescription queries.
• Communicate results of special investigations to patients.
• Review and complete patient query sheets during shifts.
• Contribute to medical writing, including blog posts and patient information leaflets.
• Follow practice protocols, comply with HPCSA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality in line with POPIA.

Requirements

• MBChB (or equivalent) with current HPCSA registration.
• Valid professional indemnity insurance (proof required before starting).
• Strong clinical skills and a commitment to thorough, patient-centred care.
• Comfortable working independently in a private practice setting.
• Excellent communication skills; reliable and professional.
