Job summary

Abantu Staffing Solutions seeks an experienced Production Supervisor for a steel manufacturing setting in Gqeberha. You will supervise a team, ensure production runs smoothly, and uphold Health and Safety standards while monitoring equipment and processes.

You will manage daily production and shift operations, coordinate handovers, address deviations, and support training and discipline. Strong leadership, organization, and detail orientation are essential in this heavy industry role.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• A relevant Supervisory certificate will be advantageous.
• A valid forklift licence will be advantageous.
• A valid excavator licence will be advantageous.
• Ability to work accurately and independently.
• Good attendance, disciplinary and timekeeping record.
• Must be willing and available to work shifts, standby and overtime.
• Supervisory experience in a production or industrial environment.
• Good communication and people management skills.
• Strong Health and Safety awareness.
• Ability to monitor production activities and maintain operational standards.
• Good problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Ability to identify issues and take appropriate corrective action.
• Good attention to detail and recordkeeping.
• Experience in steel manufacturing, furnace operations, foundries or similar heavy industrial environments will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Supervising employees, ensuring production runs smoothly, maintaining Health and Safety standards, monitoring equipment and ensuring that all work is completed correctly and efficiently.
• Production and shift management: Oversee daily production activities and ensure operations run smoothly.
• Check outstanding issues from the previous shift and ensure a proper handover to the next supervisor.
• Monitor production standards and ensure deviations are corrected.
• Ensure employees complete their assigned duties correctly and efficiently.
• Communicate production issues and delays to management.
• Staff supervision: Monitor employee attendance and arrange alternative cover when necessary.
• Report absenteeism, misconduct and poor performance to management.
• Conduct daily team meetings and toolbox talks.
• Ensure employees understand their responsibilities and follow company procedures.
• Identify training needs and assist with on-the-job training.
• Participate in employee counselling when required.
• Health and Safety: Ensure employees wear the correct PPE at all times, enforce rules, participate in risk assessments, and report incidents.
• Ensure safety incidents are documented and reported, and violations/hazards are escalated to management.
• Equipment and housekeeping: Inspect machinery, vehicles and equipment, maintain housekeeping, monitor maintenance, and report problems.
• Administration and reporting: Collect and review checklists and update reports; ensure non-conformances are corrected or escalated; complete incident forms; maintain shift handovers.
