Job summary

VML in Cape Town is seeking a freelance Mid Copywriter to develop breakthrough concepts with an Art Director, write compelling copy across channels, and present work to clients.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, stay current with industry trends, and ensure brand consistency while delivering high-quality, engaging content.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Advertising, or related field.
• 3–5 years of copywriting experience in a reputable advertising agency.
• Exceptional conceptual thinking and storytelling abilities.
• Impeccable writing skills: grammar, punctuation, and style.
• Understanding of social media marketing across platforms.
• Experience on integrated campaigns across channels.
• Strong presentation and communication skills, written and verbal.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

What you'll do:

Concept Development & Execution

• Partner with a Mid Art Director to develop breakthrough creative concepts that align with client objectives and resonate with target audiences.
• Take ownership of the copywriting process from initial brainstorming to final execution, ensuring high-quality, engaging, and error-free copy across all platforms.
• Present creative work confidently and persuasively to internal teams and clients.
• Actively participate in brainstorms and contribute innovative ideas.

Strategic Thinking & Collaboration

• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including account management, strategy, production, and technology, to ensure seamless project execution.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to inform creative development.
• Demonstrating a positive and collaborative attitude, contribute to a positive and inspiring team environment.

Craft & Quality

• Maintain a meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work. Ensure brand consistency and adherence to client style guides.
• Proactively seek feedback and continuously strive to improve writing skills.

What you'll need:

• Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Advertising, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of copywriting experience within a reputable advertising agency.
